Encouraging One Another

For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Ecc. 4:10

The concept of ‘community’ is very crucial to Christianity since it is only in a community of believers that Christianity finds its true expression and meaning. The Greek term koinonia has been used quite a few times in the New Testament and can be translated fellowship, sharing, or an intimacy between a group of believers.

It is only as a Church that we break bread, stand with one another in a crisis, learn to be accountable, respect those in authority, build healthy relationships, love each other like how Christ loved us and influence one another to be Christ-like. The writer of Hebrews is aware of the dangers of individualism and the human propensity to sin. He therefore urges believers in Hebrews 3:13 to “encourage one another daily, as long as it is called ‘Today’, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness.”

May we experience the true life of Christ in our gatherings for our own spiritual growth, and may this expression overflow in us for the purpose of uplifting and encouraging others.
